It’s all in the details.

That is certainly the case with Bryan Sammis, better known these days as Olivver. From being on the back burner to bringing his ideas to actuality, the project had been a work in progress for Sammis. The fruition of his efforts are slowly paying off, as the response for Olivver’s music has been positive. There is much admiration in the visions that Sammis has for his music, from the depth and texture in the words to the music videos that expand the stories behind the songs.

Check out our e-mail Q&A with Olivver and learn more about the man behind the music, in his own words.

Q: What was the first song that you immediately fell in love with?

I’ve loved Buffalo Springfield – For What It’s Worth since I first heard
it some 10+ years ago. Very powerful, catchy, yet simple song. One of those timeless tracks.

Q: What was the title of the first song you ever wrote?

Dementia. I can’t believe I remember that. Pun intended.

Q: What has been the most memorable moment that you’ve had this summer?

Singing with Lovelife live was awesome. A. Because they are close friends
of mine & B. I sang ‘Exhaler with them which is one of my favorite songs of
last year. It gets me emotional.

Q: If you could choose any song as the LA Kings intro song, what would it be?

Selfishly I would choose one of my own songs. I go to most regular season
home games when I can, so it would be next level to hear one of my songs
there.

Q: Did you have a favourite class from your time in college?

All of my philosophy classes really opened my mind up as a relatively
closed off teen/early adult. I had a couple English & sociology classes
that were awesome. I took a lot of classes on religion. Although I am not
religious, I find religion to be fascinating. There was a night class I took
called World Religions & the professor was a total hippy. That class was
always interesting and engaging.

Q: What is the best advice you have received?

Do the right thing. It’s simple but if you apply it to most situations
in life I believe you can leave this world a more honest & kind person.

Q: Is there a good quote that you’ve recently stumbled upon?

“I am absolutely and inherently self-destructive in that I am always
making sure I’m doing what I want to do.” — Dan Harmon
