604 RECORDS CHRISTMAS PARTY, The Belmonte Bar – December 11, 2014

The 604 Records Christmas party was just how you would imagine it – a room full of some of Vancouver’s finest musicians and those who enjoy the music of those very artists. By the time the music started, The Belmonte Bar was already packing in quite the crowd on a Thursday night.

One of 604 Record’s latest signings, Bucko & Toad, was introduced by none other than label head Jonathan Simkin who was making a rare appearance onstage. The country duo consists of husband and wife, Kenn Coutu (Bucko) and Kelly Michelson (Toad). Their vocals blended together smoothly and the energy in their set was the perfect way to start the evening. Cat Thomson was the second artist to perform, accompanied by Royce Whittaker, and brought the Christmas cheer with her rendition of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” as well as songs from her debut EP Puzzle.

Last but certainly not least, Kate Kurdyak wrapped up the musical component of the evening with an impressive set. There was a maturity to Kurdyak’s music that showcased her and her band’s musicality and the vision for her music, as the influence from various genres manifested into her songs. Charlie Kerr of JPNSGRLS joined Kurdyak onstage for a solid performance of their duet, “Bitter”. If Thursday evening was any indication, there should be big things coming up in the new year for Kurdyak, and she is definitely an artist to keep an ear out for.
